Cropped or unisex? It looks like a style question. Mostly it's a length question. Our cropped hoodies are 43 to 50 cm long. The unisex Mk1 Box Hoodie is 70 to 78 cm. That gap decides what you wear underneath, and what trousers you pair it with.
Below are the real chart numbers for both, plus how to read a unisex size chart when you usually shop women's.
The short answer: pick a cropped hoodie (£70) if you want a short, shaped top that shows your waistband and works with wide-leg trousers. Pick the Mk1 Box Hoodie (£75) if you want something long, thick and fleeced that covers you past the hips. The women's range fits more true to size. The Mk1 runs big.
The four cropped hoodies are really two garments
"Cropped hoodie" sounds like one thing. In our range it's two quite different cuts.
| Hoodie | Price | Fabric | Weight | Front | Size M chest | Size M length | Sizes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Game, Set, Matcha cropped | £70 | 80% cotton, 20% polyester | 310 g/m2 | Zip, drawstring hood | 63 cm | 48 cm | S to XL |
| Sunday Padel Club cropped | £70 | 80% cotton, 20% polyester | 310 g/m2 | Zip, drawstring hood | 63 cm | 48 cm | S to XL |
| Wellness Club cropped | £70 | 50% cotton, 50% polyester | 350 g/m2 | Pullover | 53 cm | 44.5 cm | S to XL |
| Cute and Competitive cropped | £70 | 50% cotton, 50% polyester | 350 g/m2 | Pullover | 53 cm | 44.5 cm | S to XL |
| Mk1 Box Hoodie (unisex) | £75 | 42% cotton, 53% polyester, 5% other | 350 g/m2, fleeced | Pullover | 68 cm | 72 cm | S to 2XL |
The two zip hoodies are wide and short. A medium is 63 cm across, only 5 cm narrower than a medium Mk1. The two pullovers are closer to the body, 15 cm narrower than the Mk1 at the same letter, and a touch shorter.
So "cropped" doesn't mean small. The Game, Set, Matcha in XL is 67 cm across, a centimetre wider than the Mk1 in S. The difference between those two is 20 cm of length.
Length: the number that matters most
At size M, the Mk1 is 24 cm longer than the zip cropped hoodies and 27.5 cm longer than the pullovers.
Treat the chart length as running from the top of the shoulder down to the hem. To see where that lands on you, put one end of a tape measure on top of your shoulder, next to your collar, and let it hang. Look at 48 cm, then 72 cm. That takes ten seconds and tells you more than any product photo.
What changes with that length:
- Your waistband shows under a cropped hem. So the trousers become part of the outfit. The Wellness Club Pants are a wide leg with an elastic waist and drawstring, in the same 310 g/m2 cotton blend and the same four colours as the zip cropped hoodies. The Core Shorts (£42) have a drawstring waist for warmer days.
- The Mk1 covers the waistband completely. That makes it easy over the loose Straight Leg Pants or the regular-fit Fleece Joggers, both £60, or over leggings straight from court.
- None of our bottoms are listed as high-waisted. The Wellness Club Pants and the joggers are both mid waist. If you like a high rise under a cropped top, a pair you already own may do that job better.
Fabric and warmth
The Mk1 page lists it as thick, with a fleeced interior and a slight stretch. The cropped hoodies are listed as moderate thickness. The 350 g/m2 pullovers are a 50/50 cotton and polyester blend. The 310 g/m2 zip ones are more cotton, at 80%.
Same weight doesn't mean same warmth, either. The Wellness Club and the Mk1 are both 350 g/m2, but the Mk1 is longer, wider and fleeced, so there's a lot more of it around you. For cold evenings, it's the Mk1. Our winter padel guide covers layering for the coldest months.
How to read a unisex size chart if you usually buy women's
Four things to know.
1. Ignore the letter, read the number. A unisex S and a women's S are not the same garment. Our smallest Mk1, the S, is 66 cm across. Our largest pullover cropped hoodie, the XL, is 57 cm. If you wear a medium Wellness Club or Cute and Competitive hoodie, the Mk1 in S is still 13 cm wider.
2. Sizing down stops at S. The Mk1 page says it runs big, so size down for a regular fit or take your usual size for the full boxy look. The Mk1 starts at S. If you'd size down from S, you can't, so expect the S to be roomy and boxy. That's the cut.
3. Don't panic at the shoulder figure. The Mk1 chart lists the shoulder at 65 cm on an S. That isn't your shoulder width. It's a drop shoulder, so the seam sits down on your upper arm. Compare the women's crewneck tee, with a 35.5 cm shoulder at M. For a rough idea of sleeve reach, add half the shoulder figure to the sleeve length. At M that's about 88 cm on the Mk1, 90 cm on the zip cropped hoodies and 82 cm on the pullovers.
4. Measure a hoodie you own, flat. Armpit to armpit, then top of the shoulder to the hem. Then open the Size guide button next to the sizes on the product page. Each piece has its own chart there. The general size guide page shows one chart only, so use the product pages.
The same thinking works for tees. Our unisex heavyweight tees are 305 g/m2, 100% cotton and cut oversized. Even the XS is 55.5 cm across and 72 cm long. The women's crewneck tees are 260 g/m2, 92.2% cotton with 7.8% spandex, cropped and fitted, and the XL is 44 cm across. So the smallest unisex tee is 11.5 cm wider than the largest women's crewneck. Choosing a unisex tee means choosing the oversized look, even at XS.

Which one, then?
Choose a cropped hoodie if:
- you want a short top and like your waistband on show
- you mostly wear wide-leg trousers or shorts
- you want a zip (Game, Set, Matcha or Sunday Padel Club) or a closer pullover (Wellness Club or Cute and Competitive)
Choose the Mk1 if:
- you want it long, past the hips
- you want the thickest, fleeced option for winter
- you like a big, boxy shape, or want more colour choice: eight, including Eden Green, Navy Blue and Brown
The zip cropped hoodies come in Oat Gray, White, Flower Gray and Black, and the Mk1 comes in all four of those too. So a cropped zip and a Mk1 can share a colour if you want one of each. Torn between a hoodie and a sweatshirt? Hoodie vs sweatshirt compares those two. For full outfits from the women's range, see what women wear to padel.

Cropped vs unisex hoodie questions
Which cropped hoodies have a zip? The Game, Set, Matcha and Sunday Padel Club cropped hoodies are zip front with a drawstring hood. The Wellness Club and Cute and Competitive cropped hoodies are pullovers.
How much of my tee will show under a cropped hoodie? It depends on the tee. A women's crewneck in M is 53 cm long, so about 5 cm shows under a zip cropped hoodie (48 cm) and about 8.5 cm under a pullover one (44.5 cm). A unisex heavyweight tee is 72 cm long even in XS, so well over 20 cm would show.
Is the smallest Mk1 too big if I'm petite? The S is 66 cm across and 70 cm long, the smallest we make. Lay a hoodie you own flat and compare. If yours is much narrower and you don't want the boxy look, a cropped pullover is the closer fit.
Do the cropped hoodies run big like the Mk1? No. The women's range fits more true to size, so start with your usual size. The Mk1 is the one that runs big. Each cropped hoodie has its own chart behind the Size guide button on the product page.
