Padel Hoodie vs Sweatshirt: What Actually Changes

Our hoodies and sweatshirts look close on paper. They're cut from the same 350 g/m2 cotton blend, so this isn't a thick versus thin decision. The real differences are the hood, the cut, the fit rule and £15.

Here's each one laid out, using the numbers from our own product pages, so you can pick the right one. Or both.

The spec sheet, side by side

All three hoodies (Mk1 Box Hoodie, Sunday Padel Club Hoodie, Bagel Boyz Box Hoodie) share one size chart. All three sweatshirts share a second chart, in the same fabric.

So the weight question is settled. The hoodie uses more cloth, because of the hood and the bigger cut below. The cloth itself is the same.

The measurements, size by size

Same size label, different garment. These are the garment measurements in centimetres from the size charts on the product pages.

Size Hoodie chest Sweatshirt chest Hoodie length Sweatshirt length Hoodie sleeve Sweatshirt sleeve
S 66 60 70 68 53.5 51
M 68 62 72 70 54.5 52
L 70 64 74 72 55.5 53
XL 72 66 76 74 56.5 54
2XL 74 68 78 76 57.5 55

At every size, the hoodie chart reads 6 cm more across the chest, 2 cm more in body length and 2.5 cm more in the sleeve. That gap is why the two pages give different advice. The hoodie pages say it runs big: size down for a regular fit, or take your usual size for the full boxy look. The sweatshirt pages say true to size.

So don't order both in the same letter and expect them to fit alike. If you want to work out your letter for each, our sizing guide goes through every garment. When you're on a product page, tap Size guide next to the sizes to see that garment's own chart.

The hood: what it gives you, and what it costs

What it gives you. Cover on outdoor courts when the wind picks up or it starts to spit between games. Warmth at the back of the neck and head without packing a hat. One piece doing two jobs.

What it costs you. Bulk behind the neck. Under a coat that has its own hood, you end up with two stacked at the back. With a racket bag on both shoulders, the hood sits squashed under the straps. And a crew neck shows the collar of a shirt or the neck of a tee cleanly, which a hood can't.

The cut: boxy versus closer

The hoodie page calls it oversized with a drop shoulder. The shoulder seam sits down on the upper arm, so the whole thing hangs wide and square. That's the look.

The sweatshirt is described as loose, but the chart shows a closer shape. Because it's 6 cm narrower in the chest, a sweatshirt in your size has room to go under a hoodie in your size. Tee, sweatshirt, hoodie is a proper three layer combination for January. There's more on layering for cold sessions in our winter padel guide, and on wearing the boxy shape well in padel style for men off court.

£75 or £60

The sweatshirt saves you £15. Where it gets interesting is delivery.

UK delivery is free on orders of £75 and over. A hoodie clears that on its own. A sweatshirt at £60 needs another £15 in the basket before it ships free. Buy one of each and you're at £135, well over the line.

Neither one sits on a shelf waiting. Both are made once you order, so allow 7 to 10 working days for a UK address and 7 to 14 anywhere else. Buying one as a present? UK Christmas orders close on 10 December 2026.

Which designs come in which

Design Hoodie (£75) Sweatshirt (£60)
Sunday Padel Club Yes Yes
Mk1 Yes Yes
Bagel Boyz Yes No
Coffee Padelism Repeat No Yes

Seven colours run across both the hoodies and the sweatshirts: Black, Gray, Navy Blue, Eden Green, Flower Gray, White and Oat Gray. Brown is hoodie only (Mk1 and Sunday Padel Club), and Klein Blue is on the Bagel Boyz hoodie. Gray Coffee and Dark Gray are sweatshirt only, with Gray Apricot on the Sunday Padel Club and Coffee Repeat sweatshirts.

If you want a matching pair, Sunday Padel Club and Mk1 are the two designs that come in both. Sunday Padel Club is a Padelism original since 2025, and the hoodie, sweatshirt and tee all sit together in the Sunday Padel Club collection.

So which one?

Pick the hoodie if you play on outdoor courts, you like a wide, boxy shape, or you want one piece that ships free in the UK. Start with the Mk1 Box Hoodie, or see every style in hoodies.

Pick the sweatshirt if you want a closer shape, you wear it over a collared shirt or under a fitted coat, you want £15 back, or you're after Gray Coffee or Dark Gray. The Sunday Padel Club Sweatshirt is the one to start with, and all three live in sweatshirts.

Pick both if it's winter. Sweatshirt underneath, hoodie over the top, and you take a layer off as you warm up.

Padelism started with sample hoodies and tees I wore to my local club, before I'd sold a thing. Both shapes have earned their place since. If you want to see how our hoodie stacks up against other brands too, the best padel hoodies guide covers the wider field.

Hoodie vs sweatshirt questions

Is the hoodie warmer than the sweatshirt? The cloth is the same 350 g/m2 blend. The hoodie adds a hood and more fabric, and all three hoodie pages describe it as fleeced inside. The sweatshirt pages don't say either way. So in a cold wind on an outdoor court, the hoodie keeps more of you covered.

Will a sweatshirt fit under a hoodie in the same size? On the charts, yes. In the same letter the sweatshirt is 6 cm narrower across the chest and 2 cm shorter, so it sits inside the hoodie rather than poking out at the hem. If you sized down on the hoodie (say an S hoodie over an M sweatshirt), the hoodie is still 4 cm wider across the chest and the two are the same 70 cm long, so the hems sit level.

Can I get a matching hoodie and sweatshirt? Yes, in Sunday Padel Club and Mk1. Pick one of the seven shared colours (Black, Gray, Navy Blue, Eden Green, Flower Gray, White or Oat Gray) and they'll match.

Which one is better under a coat? The sweatshirt. Under a coat that has its own hood, a hoodie stacks two hoods at the back of your neck, and a crew neck sits flatter. If your coat has no hood, the hoodie gives you the cover the coat doesn't. Size exchanges and 30-day returns are on our returns page.
