Padel leagues in the UK, explained: which format fits you

Social games are great until every Thursday feels the same. A league gives your padel a point. You get a fixture, a table and a reason to turn up when it's cold and dark.

The trouble is that "padel league" means five different things in the UK. Each costs a different amount, asks for a different amount of your time, and suits a different level.

Here's how they compare. Every detail comes from published league rules and reports, checked in October 2026.

The comparison table

Format Typical cost to you Commitment Level spread How you sign up
Club box league Small entry fee plus your share of court hire. East Dorset charges £5 per event. About 3 matches per box, over 4 to 6 weeks Narrow. Boxes are seeded by level, so everyone is close to you. Through your club, often in Playtomic or by email
Ladder Varies by club, plus your share of court hire. Rolling. Padel Box's runs for six months and you play when you challenge. Wide. Open to all levels, but you only challenge pairs just above you. Club ladder page or app
App league (Playtomic) Varies by league. You pay in the app when you register. Set by the organiser. The listing shows rounds, dates and schedule. Set by the organiser. The level is shown before you join. Compete tab in Playtomic, with a teammate
iPadel Club League £5.50 per player per season, or £11 for two. The club is also invoiced £50 to £100 per team. A full season. Each fixture needs at least 2.5 hours of court time. Club level up to strong. The Premier tier lets some top UK players in. Your club captain enters the team, then each player registers
LTA Padel National League Not published. LTA Advantage membership is free. A full season of team fixtures, with play-offs and finals Club teams across three divisions. Division 1 is the top-ranked teams. Your club admin enters the team in June

Court hire usually costs more than the entry fee, so agree who pays before anyone books. And every format here runs through a club or its booking app. No club yet? Our UK padel clubs guide is the place to start.

Club box leagues

This is the easiest league to fit around a job.

You're put in a small group, or "box", with players near your level. You arrange the matches yourselves. At the end of the period the top finisher goes up a box, the bottom one goes down, and the rest stay put.

Two published examples:

  • Wetherby Padel Club puts four players in each box. You enter on your own and partner each of the other three in turn against the other two. Men and women play in the same boxes, and the boxes are reshuffled every month. Some boxes squeeze all three matches into one two-hour booking. It's for members, and you enter by emailing the club.
  • East Dorset runs its boxes through Playtomic, under Competitions. Each box has four players or four pairs and lasts six weeks, with three matches each. There's an individuals league with rotating partners and a fixed-pair league. Entry is £5 per event. You need to be a club member or a padel booking subscriber (£50 a year), and you need a Playtomic rating to be accepted.

No regular partner? Look for the rotating-partner version. You turn up as one person and leave with three new numbers in your phone. Our guide to finding padel partners covers the other routes.

Ladders

A ladder is a ranking you climb by challenging the pairs above you. Results move you up or down.

Padel Box in South Bermondsey announced one in March 2026, due to start that April. It's a six-month rolling competition, open to all levels. Pairs start at a position based on their average Playtomic level and can challenge teams up to three places above them. Players arrange matches around their own diaries.

Ladders suit people whose weeks don't follow a pattern, because there's no fixed fixture list. The catch is that you have to send the challenges. If you're not the type to message a stranger, a box league will keep you playing more.

App leagues

If your club takes bookings on Playtomic, check there first. This is also the fastest answer to "padel league near me".

Open the app and tap the Compete tab. Tap Filters, set the activity type to League and the sport to padel. Then search by place, club name or postcode, and set how far you'll travel.

The useful switch is Leagues I Can Play. Turn it on and Playtomic only shows leagues that match your gender and skill level. Tap a league to see the level, registration deadline, rounds, schedule and points system before you commit. To join, you add your teammate and pay in the app.

Not every club uses Playtomic. Our padel booking apps guide shows which apps UK clubs use, so you know where to look.

iPadel Club Leagues

You play for your club against other local clubs in regional leagues, and regional winners go on to national finals. From the rules:

  • A fixture is four rubbers, with each club fielding two pairs.
  • Hosting? Your side books a minimum of 2.5 hours on court and supplies the new balls.
  • Only members or regulars can play for a club.
  • Each player pays a £5.50 season registration before they can play. The club is invoiced a team entry fee: £100 each for its first two teams, then less for extra teams.
  • Teams are encouraged to play at least one match a month. For Winter 2026-7, group matches must be done by midnight on 14 March 2027.

There are two tiers. Club Leagues are closed to anyone who played in the 2026 LTA Division 1 National League. Premier Leagues are open to anyone, so expect a higher standard.

That winter deadline matters. Most of this season will be played in the cold. Our winter padel guide covers how to layer for a cold session on court.

LTA Padel National League

The LTA calls its National League the biggest padel team competition in Great Britain. Anyone can be part of a team if they play at an LTA registered venue with at least one padel court, but you can't enter on your own. Your club admin enters teams online, and each entry has to be approved by the club manager or coach.

Teams have five players, and the men's and women's competitions are separate. Every player must be an LTA Advantage member, which is free. There are three divisions. Division 3 is a round robin of home and away fixtures, with captains arranging the dates.

The 2026 nomination window ran from 1 to 29 June, so talk to your club well before next summer. The finals weekends are in our UK padel events calendar.

Which format fits you

  • No regular partner, busy job: a rotating-partner box league.
  • Regular partner, unpredictable diary: a ladder.
  • You just want something this month: search Playtomic with Leagues I Can Play switched on.
  • You've got a group at your club and want to represent it: ask about iPadel Club Leagues.
  • Your club already has strong players and an organised captain: push for a National League team next June.

Padel has given me some really close friends. A fixture that comes round every week, with the same faces, is a quick way to make that happen.

Looking like a team

Want your pair to match on fixture night? Put two of our £48 heavyweight tees in the basket and the 2 for £90 price comes off at checkout. Each is 305 g/m2, 100% cotton and cut oversized (go a size down if you'd rather a regular fit). Wear them for the drink after the result goes in, not for the third set. For colour plans that work across a whole side, see what to wear on league night.

If your league fixtures fall on a Sunday, the Sunday Padel Club collection, a Padelism original since 2025, is the obvious pick. For the walk to a winter fixture, the Essentials has the Mk1 Box Hoodie, a sweatshirt and our heavyweight fleece joggers. UK delivery is free on orders of £75 and over.

FAQ

How much does it cost to join a padel league in the UK? Entry fees are small. iPadel charges players £5.50 a season, and East Dorset's box leagues are £5 per event. Court hire usually costs more than the entry. In iPadel leagues the home club covers court costs at its discretion. Box leagues and ladders rarely say, so agree who pays before anyone books.

Can I join a padel league on my own? Yes, with the right format. Rotating-partner box leagues, like Wetherby's and East Dorset's individuals league, take single entries. Playtomic leagues need a teammate when you register, and iPadel and National League teams go through a club captain.

Do I need a Playtomic level to join a league? Sometimes. East Dorset won't accept players without a Playtomic rating, and Padel Box places ladder pairs by their average Playtomic level. If you've never set one, do it before the sign-up deadline. Padel levels explained shows how the Playtomic scale works.

When do padel league seasons start? It depends on the organiser. Wetherby reshuffles its boxes every month, and East Dorset every six weeks within a six-month league. iPadel runs summer and winter seasons, and the LTA National League takes club entries in June.
