Padel & Pizza: An Hour and a Half on Court, Then Proper Pizza

Book the court, play an hour and a half, then go somewhere that does proper pizza afterwards. Nobody remembers the score by the second slice.

That rhythm is what the Padel & Pizza tee is about. It has been on the site since 1 May 2025 and it's one of our best sellers. Here's how the artwork is put together, what each part is doing, and why "padel and pizza" turns out to be a lot more than a slogan on a t-shirt.

Why pizza, and why after

Padel is usually played as doubles, so four of you walk off court together and somebody has to decide where to eat. An hour and a half is just long enough to be properly hungry and not quite long enough to want to go home.

Pizza is the easy answer. It's for sharing, it arrives fast, and nobody minds if you turn up in what you played in. Padel has given me some really close friends, and this design is about the part of the evening you spend with them once the rackets are away.

It isn't only our phrase

"Padel and pizza" is also something clubs put on the calendar. Two recent listings on Playtomic show how it works.

  • Pure Padel, Nottingham listed a Tuesday evening session called Padel Pizza and Play! It ran for 90 minutes at £16.50, with racket hire, balls and pizza included.
  • Georgians Padel, Crouch End listed a Friday night Padel Pints & Pizza! session. That was 90 minutes on court followed by the clubhouse, at £33 with pints and pizza in the price.

Look at the timings. Both clubs landed on the same hour and a half, then food. That's the shape of the night the tee is about. Padelism has no link to either club, and both of those sessions were fully booked.

If you searched "padel and pizza" because you want a night like that, the booking apps are where clubs list their socials. Our guide to padel booking apps in the UK explains which ones cover which clubs.

Reading the artwork, layer by layer

The design sits big on the back of the tee. The front keeps it quiet, with a small Padelism wordmark on the left chest. Here's what's going on in the back print, one piece at a time.

1. The racket with a face

The main character is a padel racket with a face drawn into the head. The holes stay in. They're what stops him reading as a tennis racket from across a clubhouse, and if you've ever wondered why padel rackets look like that, the padel racket vs tennis racket guide explains it.

He's grinning, tongue out, one hand up in a wave. Less "match point", more "see you inside".

2. The slice

In his other hand he holds a slice of pizza, toppings and all. He's mid-stride in a pair of trainers, heading somewhere fast. You can guess where.

3. The ball that's still in play

A ball flies in behind him, with speed lines to show it's moving. The game isn't technically over, but his attention clearly is. Anyone who has watched a partner check the time during the last game will know the feeling.

4. The dots

Behind him sit patches of halftone dots that shrink as they fade out. They stand in for shadow, so the drawing gets some depth without a second ink. The whole graphic stays in one colour, which keeps the print bold.

5. The lettering

Under the character, "Padel & Pizza" is set in a looping script with a long swoosh underneath. It has the feel of a hand-painted shop sign, which suits a design that's really about where you go after the court.

6. The wordmark

Last, the small Padelism wordmark sits under the script. It's the first logo I ever designed, and it hasn't changed since. Every graphic changes around it. That stays put.

The same character, a different order

If the character looks familiar, it should. He also appears on Padel & Pints, holding a pint instead of a slice. Same racket, same wave, same trainers. They're two halves of the same evening, and the story behind that one is in Padel & Pints: the bar, the culture and our best-selling tee. If you want the joke behind every one of our tees, there's the funny padel t-shirts guide.

From drawing to print

The product page lists a print size of 40 x 52 cm, so the whole character, the lettering and the wordmark have to work inside that space and still read from the other side of a table. For how the print itself is made, and why you can see the cotton through the ink up close, read how a padel t-shirt is designed.

My rule for anything that goes on the site hasn't changed: "I would never ever sell or try and sell something that I wouldn't wear myself." Padel & Pizza is on the site because it passes that test.

The tee under the drawing

The artwork is printed on one of our heavyweight tees. Here's what you get.

  • Fabric: 100% cotton, 305 g/m2 heavyweight.

Questions about Padel & Pizza

How do I find a padel and pizza night near me? Clubs post their socials on the booking apps, often under names like "Padel Pizza and Play" or "Padel Pints & Pizza". Search the events or tournaments tab of the app your local club uses. The booking apps guide shows which app covers which clubs.

Which colours does Padel & Pizza come in? Black, Navy, White, Oat Gray and Sand Color, in sizes XS to XXL. The product page shows each one.

Is it the same character as on Padel & Pints? Yes. The same racket character appears on both tees. On Padel & Pizza he's holding a slice, and on Padel & Pints he's holding a pint.

Does Padel & Pizza count towards the 2 for £90 deal? It does. Any two £48 heavyweight tees come to £90 at checkout, with no code needed. The £38 Classic tees and the £44 women's tees aren't part of it.

Will it look too big if I order my normal size? It's cut oversized on purpose, so your usual size gives a relaxed, boxy look. If you prefer a regular fit, go down one size.
