From November, a lot of padel bookings come down to one question. Will this court keep the weather out?
"Indoor" and "covered" get used as if they mean the same thing. They don't. A covered court has a roof or canopy over it. An indoor court is inside a building with walls. On a wet, windy night in January, that's the difference between a normal game and an hour of sideways drizzle.
So I went through the clubs we track and checked how each one labels its courts, on its own site or its booking page. This page lists only the venues where every court is indoor, sorted by region, with court counts. Then there's a separate list of covered-only venues, so you know which ones to ask about before you book.
Indoor, covered, roofed: what the labels mean
There's no UK standard for this, so read the label your club uses.
- Indoor. Inside a building. On Playtomic, each court gets a tag, and "indoor" is the one you want.
- Roofed. Playtomic's other tag. The Powerleague sites we opened on Playtomic (Manchester Nicholls, Birmingham and Paisley) all use it. It means a roof is over the court, not that there are walls round it.
- Covered or canopy. A roof structure over an outdoor-style court. Brighton and Hove council describes the Withdean courts as having a canopy "to allow play all year round". Dry, yes. Warm and still, not necessarily.
The LTA's own court finder doesn't have an indoor filter either. Its FAQ tells you to check each venue's facilities to see if the courts are indoor, covered or outdoor, and to contact the venue if it isn't clear. That's what this page does for you, for the clubs listed.
One more thing worth knowing. The LTA counts 1,825 courts across 551 venues in Britain, and says the Government has pledged £3 million in 2026/27 towards covered padel and tennis facilities, enough for about three projects.
The biggest fully indoor venues
| Club | Area | Indoor courts | Booking label checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carbon Padel Club | Manchester, M12 | 17 (12 doubles, 5 singles) | Playtomic: all indoor |
| Rocket Padel Bristol | Bristol, BS4 | 14 (12 doubles, 2 singles) | Rocket site: all indoor |
| Slazenger Padel Clubs Leeds North | Leeds, LS14 | 12 | Playtomic: all indoor |
| Rocket Padel Ilford | Ilford, IG1 | 12 | Rocket site: all indoor |
| Just Padel Derby | Derby, DE24 | 11 | Playtomic: all indoor |
A note on those counts. The biggest numbers include singles courts, which are narrower and take two players, not four. Carbon is a good example: Playtomic lists 17 courts, while the LTA's figure is 11. If you're booking a four-ball, count the doubles courts.
Fully indoor, region by region
London
London has the most fully indoor choice, and most of it is in the east. Rocket Padel Ilford (12), Stratford Padel Club (9), The Padel Hub in Whetstone, N20 (6), Rocket Padel Beckton (5), Padel Box Bermondsey (5) and Rocket Padel Battersea (4) are all indoor.
Watch the mixed sites. Padium Canary Wharf is 7 indoor and 2 outdoor. Padel Social Club Earl's Court is 2 indoor and 4 outdoor, and Paddington is 2 and 2. Same app, same club, very different evening depending on which court you land. The full breakdown, with stations and hours, is in our London clubs guide.
Hertfordshire and Berkshire
- Encourt Padel & Wellness, Radlett: 7 indoor
- The Padel Hub Slough: 5 indoor
Essex
Beaulieu Padel in Chelmsford (6), The Essex Golf & Country Club at Earls Colne (6) and Epping and Ongar Padel (3) are the fully indoor ones. The rest of the county leans on covered courts, which are in the second table below. There's more on each club, including prices, in the Essex guide.
Midlands
- Just Padel Derby (listed on Playtomic under its old We Are Padel web address): 11 indoor
- Pure Padel Nottingham: 7 indoor, three of them singles courts
- Core Padel, Tyseley, Birmingham: 6 indoor (LTA listing)
- The Padel Barn, Market Bosworth: 3 indoor
North of England
- Carbon Padel Club, Manchester: 17 listed, all indoor
- Slazenger Padel Clubs Leeds North: 12 indoor
- Optimum Padel, Leeds: 8 indoor
- Club de Padel Sheffield: 5 indoor
- Play Padel Sheffield: 4 indoor, one of them singles
Leeds is the quiet winner here. Two fully indoor clubs with 20 courts between them. For the rest of Manchester, including the late-night hours at Carbon, see the Manchester guide.
South West and South
- Rocket Padel Bristol: 14 indoor
- Surge Padel Bristol: 8 indoor
- The Padel Team, Easton, Bristol: 7 indoor
- PadelHub SO16, Southampton: 5 indoor
Bristol has three fully indoor clubs and 29 indoor courts between them. Outside London, no city on this list has more.
Wales and Scotland
Padium Cardiff in Cardiff Bay describes its courts as indoor. Its own page doesn't give a number. A Nation.Cymru piece written before it opened said 8.
In Scotland, every venue we checked is covered or roofed rather than fully indoor. They're in the table below.
Covered, not indoor: the ones to double-check
None of these are bad options. A roof beats rain. But if you feel the cold, or you're booking for someone who's new and not keen, ask the club how open the sides are.
| Club | Area | What the club, listing or local press says |
|---|---|---|
| The Padel Club Trafford City | Manchester, M41 | 9 covered, 2 outdoor |
| Powerleague Manchester Nicholls | Manchester, M12 | 6 roofed |
| Ignite Padel Speke | Liverpool | 6 indoor, 4 outdoor covered |
| Powerleague Birmingham | Birmingham, B6 | 5 roofed |
| Connect Padel Birmingham | Moseley, B13 | 4, covered by a canopy |
| Powerleague Romford | Romford | 4 covered |
| Padel United Maldon | Maldon, CM9 | 3 covered, 1 outdoor |
| Padel4all Garon Park | Southend, SS2 | 3 covered, 1 open |
| Padel4all Lockleaze | Bristol, BS7 | 4 covered |
| Game4Padel Withdean | Brighton | 3, canopy |
| Powerleague Paisley | Paisley | 4 roofed |
| Edinburgh Sports Club | Edinburgh, EH4 | Covered (no count given) |
| Powerleague Portobello | Edinburgh, EH15 | 3 covered |
| Game4Padel Thistle | Edinburgh, EH14 | 2 covered |
Trafford City is the one that surprises people. It's a big site with 11 courts, but the club's own page says nine are covered and two are outdoor. Ignite Speke is a genuine mix: book one of its six indoor courts if the forecast is grim.
How to check before you pay
- Open the court, not the club. On Playtomic, each court has its own tag. Look for "indoor", not "roofed".
- At mixed clubs, pick the court by name. The app usually lets you choose. Don't just take the first free slot.
- Ask about the sides. For anything covered or canopied, one message to the club tells you if the wind gets in.
- Book early for the evening slots. Fully indoor venues are where everyone goes when it's wet.
Indoors still starts in the car park
Even on the best indoor court, the cold bit of a winter session doesn't go away. It just moves. You're cold walking in from the car, cold waiting for the four before you to finish, and cold again once you've stopped sweating and someone suggests one drink.
I play at clubs across London, Essex and Manchester, and that is always the part that gets me. It's the part we make clothes for.
The Mk1 Box Hoodie is 350 g/m² with a fleeced inside, cut oversized and boxy with a drop shoulder, so it goes straight over a damp playing top. It's £75, so it ships free in the UK on its own. The Heavyweight Fleece Joggers are £60 and go on over your shorts in the car park. If you want a different design, the rest are in hoodies.
If you're also playing on covered or outdoor courts this winter, our guide to winter padel clothing covers layering for the whole session.
Ordering as a Christmas present? The last UK order date is 10 December 2026. Everything is made to order, so earlier is better.
FAQ
Which UK padel club has the most indoor courts? Carbon Padel Club in Manchester lists 17 indoor courts on Playtomic, 12 doubles and 5 singles. The LTA's figure for it is 11. Rocket Padel Bristol is next with 14, including 2 singles courts.
Is a covered padel court the same as an indoor one? No. A covered court has a roof or canopy, which keeps rain off. An indoor court is inside a building with walls, so it also keeps the wind out. Playtomic tags courts as "indoor" or "roofed", which is a quick way to tell.
Can I search for indoor courts on the LTA court finder? Not as a filter. The finder searches by location, and the LTA's FAQ says to check each venue's facilities, or contact the venue, to see if courts are indoor, covered or outdoor.
Which UK city has the most fully indoor padel courts? On this list, London: six fully indoor clubs with 41 courts between them, most of them in the east. Outside London, Bristol leads with 29 indoor courts across three clubs, then Leeds with 20 across two.
